National day of action for expanding the Child Nutrition Reauthorization funding!

This week is the National Week of Action on Child Nutrition Reauthorization. Today, advocates from across the country converge on Congress in Washington, DC, to push for a $1 billion expansion to this package of programs that includes school breakfast/lunch and summer feeding programs for children.
TAKE ACTION:

Please call 866-548-0332 and enter your PIN, 68405, and you will be connected to your Members’ offices (see sidebar for WNC delegation).
TALKING POINTS: The main message our Members of Congress need to hear at this critical juncture is: “We want a minimum investment of $1 billion per year to increase program access and make significant progress against child hunger.”

You can reinforce your message further by adding any or all of the following points:

To remain effective, child nutrition programs need at least $1 billion per year in new investments. This amount will allow us to increase program access and participation for low-income kids, fill gaps in program delivery, and combat child hunger.

Congress must complete Child Nutrition Re authorization this year. With nearly a quarter of America’s children struggling against hunger, the time for strong action is now.

The House bill should include the Weekends Without Hunger Act (H.R. 5012), which would pilot a program supporting community efforts to feed at-risk children during the weekend hunger gap.

Thanks to Feeding America for this alert!
