September 4 Day of Caring, 9 a.m. to noon. Volunteers from the law offices of Roberts & Stevens will be working in the Community Garden at the Family Resource Center at Emma and volunteers from CarePartners will be working at the Deaverview and Woodridge Project MARCH Learning Centers. September 8 Project POWER/AmeriCorps Team 11 begins work at Service Sites. September 12 Motheread Chronicle Journey of Learning, September 12 – Mid March, Fridays, 12:30-2 p.m., Family Resource Center at Emma. Previous Motheread participants will gather together to create a shared quilt project and scrap book that chronicles their journey of learning. For more information contact Norma Brown at the Family Resource Center at 828-252-4810. September 13 Asheville Grand Prix, Saturday, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the Biltmore Park Town Square. This is a family fun event that includes a kids play area, food vendors and an exciting bicycle race. All proceeds from of event will go to Children First/CIS of Buncombe County and Child Abuse Prevention. September 18 Children First/CIS Project MARCH Woodridge Learning Center Kick Off, 5:30-7 p.m. Orientation and registration for elementary aged students living in the Woodridge Apartment Development to attend the Children First/CIS Project MARCH Learning Center. For more information contact Patricia Harrison at 828-252-4810. September 23 Mind the Gap Tour, Tuesday, 3:45-4:45 p.m., Family Resource Center at Emma. Please arrive by 3:30 p.m.. The Mind the Gap tour is an opportunity to see Children First’s programs first hand so you can help us close the gaps for a brighter future for our children. Seating is limited.
