Project MARCH
Learning Centers
The
Project MARCH (Make A Right CHoice) Learning
Center is a safe haven afterschool program that provides academic
assistance, healthy snacks and enrichment activities for up to 60 at-risk
elementary aged children. This program is in its fourth year and is unique
in that:
1) the staff includes Project POWER/AmeriCorps members that work
in the neighboring elementary schools in the morning and at Project MARCH
sites in the afternoon;
2) it is located within the community to alleviate
transportation barriers;
3) program is free;
4) provides holistic help to
families through parent involvement and emergency assistance;
5)
incorporates a Summer Camp program and
6) employs two Housing Authority residents
Project MARCH strengthens the connection between student,
school, parent and community which is a key element in helping an at-risk
child succeed in school and prepare for life.
